READ THE LESSON
From rule to routine
A CHP is the practical translation of the Lab Standard for your specific lab: the procedures, controls and responsibilities that keep your particular hazards in check.
SOPs are the working heart
Standard operating procedures describe how a defined hazardous task is performed step by step. Before a new procedure, the CHP is where you check it's approved.
Some substances need more
Carcinogens, reproductive toxins and acutely toxic chemicals get "particularly hazardous substance" provisions — designated areas, containment devices and stricter approval.
Find it first
On day one, locate your lab's CHP and read the SOPs for the work you'll actually do.
